Clerk Vacancy

VACANCY
Clerk to the Governing Body

A clerk to the Governing Body of Westfield Junior School is wanted as soon as possible.

Scale 5 (£10.71 - £11.74 p.h.) pro rata to the hours worked
Approximately 100 hours per year worked flexibly during term time including evening meetings. This is a temporary appointment for 2 years in the first instance.

At Westfield Junior, we recognise that the role of Clerk is essential to the smooth operation of our governing body so we are looking for a well-organised, flexible and reliable Clerk to join our friendly team.

The Clerk’s role involves organising meetings, preparing agendas, providing advice on procedural matters, taking accurate minutes at meetings and ensuring that we have everything in place to be able to carry out our statutory duties effectively. The ability to use your own initiative and to work independently is essential as are good interpersonal, ICT and organisational skills.

This part time role involves working with the Chair, the Headteacher and the Chairs of our Standards and Resources Committees to ensure that we make the best use of the time and talents of our governing body for the benefit of the School. We hold a minimum of 16 governor meetings per year, which take place in the early evening so you will need to be flexible in the hours you can offer. The majority of the planning, preparation and follow up can, however, be undertaken from home.

Some knowledge of how schools and governing bodies operate would be an advantage but your organisational and communication skills and your experience of providing advice in a confidential and impartial manner are essential. We can offer good opportunities for support, training and networking with Clerks across the local cluster of schools and also within the local authority.

Westfield Junior School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. Our school values the diversity of our workforce and we welcome applications from all sections of the community. The successful candidate will need to undergo a DBS check in line with our safer employment policy.

If you are interested in joining us, please contact our Headteacher, Lucy Roberts, who will be happy to arrange for you to visit our school. Closing dates for applications is Friday 20th April 2018.
